Project updates

A new home for Speak Up Preston’s media

Here’s a lovely thing: it’s the (very nearly) completed web platform for the media – video, audio, images and text – being created by our community journalists in East Preston.

The site brings together all of the stories being captured and categorises them according to the neighbourhood they’re relevant to. There’s also a nice Geotagging feature, which is building up a sense of the spread of stories across the city.

All of our journalists can upload content to the site themselves, although we’re around to help them until they get the hang of it. The site links to the project’s Facebook, Twitter and Flickr pages – so that those wanting to engage with the project through social media can seamlesses access everything we’re producing.

The next step is to get the mobile phones that journalists are using to collect their stories linked up directly to the site, rather than having to go via a computer; and to make sure that other sites operated by project partners (in particular Blog Preston and Preston FM) can be automatically updated with stories posted on the Speak Up Preston site.

So, pop over to speakuppreston.org and have a look around or, if you’ve not got that long right now, meet Margaret Mills (below), who’s the start of one of the newer stories on the site:
